The solution mimics blood glucose levels, allowing you to verify that your glucose meter and test strips are working correctly. It helps detect potential issues with the meter, test strips, or your testing technique.

There are usually different levels of control solutions (low, normal, high) to test the meter’s accuracy across its range.

Usage Instructions:

• Check the expiration date on the control solution bottle.
• Shake the bottle well before use.
• Squeeze a drop of the solution onto a clean, non-absorbent surface.
• Use a test strip to draw up the solution, just as you would with a blood sample.
• Insert the test strip into the glucose meter.
• Compare the reading on the meter to the range indicated on the control solution bottle or the test strip vial.

If the reading is within the specified range, your meter and strips are functioning properly.  If the reading is outside the range, you may need to troubleshoot by checking the expiration dates of the control solution and test strips, ensuring proper storage, or consulting the meter’s user manual for further guidance.

It is recommended to use a glucose control solution when:

• You open a new container of test strips.
• You suspect your meter or test strips are not working properly.
• Your meter has been dropped or damaged.
• You have had repeated unexpected blood glucose results.

Using a glucose control solution is a critical step in managing diabetes effectively, as it ensures the accuracy of the glucose readings you rely on for making health decisions.
